It’s one of my favorite running courses because the location is very scenic. I can run while looking out over Beppu bay, watching the sun rise and listening to ocean waves.
If you're in Beppu or had previously lived in Beppu, surely you have at least once encountered a runner. Most of them are representative of what the running public here is like - loves odd hours that defy all of your preconceived notions about circadian rhythms; and has stamina so seemingly boundless you wind up self-conscious about your own.
Beppu's runner culture is celebrated and sustained by its robust running scene, with many courses to choose from, and a diverse pool of runners young and old alike.
I myself love running. And today I would like to introduce you to one of my favorite running courses.
The course I’ll be talking about is near Matogahama beach, a 10-minute walk from Beppu station.
It's located behind Beppu tower and the adjacent hotel block. The course is only around 800 meters long, so it is suitable for people who are new to running.
This place is up there for me because the location is very scenic. I can run while looking out over Beppu bay, watching the sun rise and listening to ocean waves. It doesn’t get much better than that.
In my case, I run here every morning because it’s close to my house. While I’m there, I can meet many runners, as well as nearby hotel guests who decided to go out for an early stroll.
So, what do you say, shall we go on a run sometime?
朝のジョギング、気持ちがよさそうですね。私も朝散歩したいな。
