I don't know about you, but I feel like clothes are always there for me. They cheer me up when I'm down in the dumps, and can even help me discover who I truly am. I genuinely think clothes are capable of all that.
It goes without saying that I love clothes. But not just any kind of clothes. I am especially fond of thrifted ones. They're one-of-a-kind and environmentally friendly since you're only buying clothes that have already been worn and thus contributing less to the pollution cycle.
And since i love clothes and thrifting so much, I decided this would be the first part of many in a series where I introduce you to thrift shops around Beppu. So what do you say, care to embark on this thrift shop journey with me?
This first episode will be about Nishikaigan, or The West Coast. It is the biggest and probably most well-known thrift shop in Beppu.
Nishikaigan has a great selection of apparels, from brand-names such as Yves Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren and Givenchy to cute character tees. Whatever you can think of, they probably have it.
It never takes me very long to find at least one or two cool pieces because there are always so many to choose from. Regardless of who you are or who you're trying to impress, their humongous warehouse-like store boasts unparalleled variety for all kinds of demographics and occasions.
But just because the clothes there are separated into sections by age and gender does not mean you must confine yourself to just one. When I visited the other day, one thing in particular stood out to me. It was a black shirt with flower patterns and shoulder pads which might have belonged to an older folk. Japanese senior fashion is usually over-the-top, which makes it seem difficult to pull off for us young people. But all you have to do is just try it on and who knows, you might find yourself really liking it.
I hope with this article I've inspired some of you to visit Nishikaigan. I’m convinced that you will have a great time hunting for cool finds there.
